"No Change In Resumption Date " - OAU Public Relations Officer

With few days left to the proposed resumption date of academic activities in Obafemi Awolowo University, the university management has resolved that resumption holds as earlier scheduled despite the consistent agitation by the NASU, SSANU, and NAAT union members on campus. Speaking with OAU Peeps News Agency , the University Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju stated that there is no change in resumption date. He further added that academic activities will commence immediately students resume. Substandard Phones Can Cause Cancer, NCC Warns Nigerians

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, on Thursday warned Nigerians against the use of sub-standard phones, saying this was responsible for some cancer ailments. An official of the commission, Kunle Olorundare, gave the warning at a stakeholders’ workshop organised by the Ibadan Zonal office of NCC at the popular Fayose GSM Market in Ado Ekiti. Mr. Olorundare lamented that fake phones had taken over the country’s phone market, adding that they have had negative implications on the health of users. The NCC official also identified unapproved phones as a major cause of network interruptions. He said the preponderance of substandard phones was causing colossal damage to network services and health of users. Mr. Olorundare warned that sellers of unapproved Information and Communication Technology, ICT, products were flouting the commission’s Act. He said they could face prosecution or seizure of their market items if they did not desist from selling such hencefort

Also suspended was the university’s Registrar, Dr. Modupe Ajayi.The Chairman of the university’s Joint Action Committee (JAC) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), ‎Dele Durojaiye confirmed the suspension. Earlier, the vice chancellor and the bursar, Emmanuel Oresegun had been taken to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged mismanagement of the institution’s funds. Matriculated Students In Any Institution Are Not Allowed To Take UTME – JAMB PRO

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has stated that candidates who are already matriculated students of any tertiary institution are not allowed to site for UTME. He made this know during a phone conversation with newsmen on Monday. According to him, “Students with matriculation numbers of universities are not eligible to sit for the UTME. If they are not satisfied with their chosen disciplines, they can ask for transfer.” On the issues of extension of deadline due to hitches, he said, “We registered 600,000 candidates in 10 days and if we go on at this pace, it means we would have registered 1.2million in 20 days. JAMB Reduces Exam Questions And Time, Questions To Be Uploaded 5 Mins To The Exam

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, on Wednesday said the board may reduce the timeline for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) from three hours to two hours. Similarly, Use of English that used to have 100 questions will be reduced to 60 questions while the other subjects will be reduced to 40 questions each. He further stated that question papers will be uploaded five minutes to the examinations in order to check malpractice and questions leakage. The Nigerian army has said a confessed Boko Haram terrorist belonging to Mamman Nur’s faction of the terrorists’ group, Bulama Kailani, has surrendered himself to troops of 145 Task Force Battalion, 5 Brigade, at Damasak. This was disclosed in a statement by Director of Army Public Relations, Brig-Gen Sani Kukasheka Usman. President Buhari orders vice chancellors to expel university students with low CGPA

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday gave vice chancellors a marching order to expel students with less than 0.5 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) from next academic session.                                                                              President Buhari Such students, he said, are unserious elements that should not be accommodated any longer in higher institutions. The President also cautioned governing councils and managements universities against muzzle-flexing and ego-tripping, which he said had thrown affected universities into avoidable crises.
